Aged Care – A Client Story

A very revealing study was recently published outlining a common trend about older Australians preparing for their future care.

The Future Care Study 2018 conducted by Absolute Care and Health interviewed over a 1,000 Australians aged over 50 years and reported that “more than 75% of Australians have failed to make any plans to ensure they receive their preferred future care”

The report also highlighted the desire of older Australians to continue to live in their own homes however there was an unpreparedness or reluctance of the vast majority to plan for it or to discuss their plans with anyone.  A future care plan should be part of every familiesAged Care Hands conversation.

A Client Story

Mr. H. is a 76 year old gentleman who lives with his wife in their home in St Agnes.
Mr. H was a farmer in mid- north however he had a severe stroke 26 years ago.
His wife is his primary carer and while Mr. H was able to regain some mobility, he requires assistance with many daily tasks.
Mr. H had been allocated for a Level 2 Home Care Package and we were asked by the family to find a provider.

Age Care Directions – met with Mr. and Mrs. H and discussed what assistance was needed and developed a care plan.

They sourced 5 providers in their area, provided them with the care plan and asked for a quote.
Three providers were available to provide the services and each provided a quote and an outline of what they are able to do to assist Mr. H.
Each quote was different and hard to compare to each other, so they re-configured them and provided this comparison in a report to Mr. and Mrs. H. This enabled them to make an informed choice.

Anthea and Andrew Boden from Age Care Directions offer a service where they sit down with the client and their family, if they wish, and discuss all their future care planning. This service helps to improve their care readiness and get them on track by providing the facts and tools to help educate and empower them in their future.
